Another year is coming to a close. Today is a big day for our family, as we all reflect on the year that’s ending and plan for what’s to come. Part of that for me is looking at my businesses and rethinking things and making tweaks. 2014 wasn’t my best year financially, but it wasn’t my worst. Actually, I think that’s how 2014 was overall for me. Nothing amazing happened, and nothing catastrophic happened. It just was. And you know what? That’s great. When I look at our family, I think we’re in a great groove. My husband works too much, but he really wouldn’t have it any other way. I have great friends, my marriage is good, my parents are well, my kids are smart, healthy and well-rounded.
The last part of 2015 will bring new freedom to my life – I’ll have all three kids in school full-time. For the first time in many, many years, I will be ALONE from 8:15 until 2:45 every day. This may mean I get a ‘real job’, it may not. But I know my house will be cleaner.
Photography has changed for me in 2014. I went from loving taking pictures to only using my camera to ‘work’. I am in the process of selling my ‘professional’ camera, that I thought I had to have – and purchasing a smaller, newer, more ‘fun’ camera (it has wi-fi!) that I wanted. I’ll still do Photography, but my business might look different. I found 80% of my business was pro-bono last year. Doing shoots for free – some on purpose, some were professional flops. I will value my time more in 2015, and be using a camera that I love, which is actually better than my ‘pro-camera’!
New pricing will be coming out in January.
Here’s a look at some of my favourite images from 2014.
Happy New Year!
